IPE (Brazilian hardwood)
IPE (pronounced EE-pay) is a Brazilian hardwood and the finest quality wood available. Ipe is an exotic hardwood with very attractive characteristics for outdoor use, particularly as decking. Ipe is very hard and long lasting; according to the U.S. Forest service it will last 25 years in outdoor use. Because Ipe requires no maintenance, is fireproof and quite beautiful, it is the preferred wood for decks, porches and outdoor stairs.
Mahogany is considered by many to be the finest outdoor wood. Second only to Ipe in strength and durability, this rich, elegant lumber is breathtaking. Mahogany naturally resists wear, rot and splintering. Very little maintenance is required and a clear finish can be applied to preserve the natural color. If left unsealed, the wood will weather to a silver patina. Mahogany lumber is as hard as oak and perhaps has the least amount of knots out of any other species of deck woods. A very durable product for exterior use.
A highly weather resistant composite material that is made to resemble wood decks, but without all the hassle they provide. A stain, scratch, and fade resistant material, Trex rated to last at least 25 years, with minimal fading and wear. Click here to learn more about Trex Decking
Do You Know If Your Decks Are Near Or At The End of Their Life?
Consult with Advanced Roofing Siding and Windows First. By having us involved at the budget and planning stage, we can help you identify inherent design problems and make certain you aren’t putting the same problems back in place.
Before repairing and refurbishing decks, we:
- Inspect deck posts, footings and supports.
- Inspect rails and spindles for loose or rotten wood and cracked framing.
- Inspect ledger board and rim joist for rot and structural stability.
- Inspect for corrided footings from “green treated” arsenic lumber.
- Inspect for “danger signs”, such as patio door rotting and decks separating from homes’ siding due to improper flashing.
